Based on a true story, film describes the final days of life of Zviad Gamsakhurdia - the first president of our country and the most controversial figure in Georgian politics with a huge army of devoted supporters and a huge group of archenemies. It took almost ten years to make this film. Director was rejected to finance the project many times due to its thematic subject. Political restrictions made the project to delay, but not cancel. Finally, after getting the financial sources, director started shooting and the threats from different interested groups started to come. However the process did not stop. After the film release, the audience split into two parts: excited and outrage.

It was truly an ambitious production with difficult locations and severe climate. Shooting period for the 100-member crew lasted for 2 months in the unapproachable mountains. 12 working hours were mostly spent in the rainy, windy and/or snowy exteriors – villages, forests, mountainsides.

The story of the film takes place on a little island created by the spring floods in the middle of the river. Old man and his granddaughter are carrying out their work on that island, which is the natural border dividing Georgia from Abkhazia, a very close place to the hostilities.

Corn Island was a famously complicated shoot location. Building a remote island was a hardest challenge, but it worked out. We created an island from the scratch in the middle of the water reservoir with the depth of 5-6 meters and the unstable bottom. We started with covering up the water with earth from the bank and making the way in the reservoir. At the end of this way we constructed the piece of land with the almond shape. Then the way was destroyed step by step and in the middle of the water we got the beautiful island, which still exists.

The Other Bank tells a story of a little boy, refugee from Abkhazia, who has lost everything after the civil war and who, at his twelve, decides to go back to his war-ravaged region and find his father.

This is a road movie with the main character traveling from one end of the country to another. Production process was complicated in terms of planning and arranging big number of shooting locations separated from each other. The whole crew moving from one shooting place to another with an equipment and multiple actors playing in different small episodes were quite a big challenge for us.
